Accuracy of Gram-stained Smears as Screening Tests for Neisseria gonorrhoeae: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background and Objective: A total of 86.9 million persons worldwide are infected with Neisseria gonorrhoeae (Ng). Although Gram-stained smears (GSS) provide a timeand cost-saving alternative to conventional laboratory tests, their global uptake partly depends on performance. This study aimed meta-analyze the diagnostic accuracy GSS screen for Ng. Materials Methods: literature search was conducted using MEDLINE (1980 2020). Studies were included if they employed detect Ng in humans compared results reference tests. Results: Eleven studies reviewed meta-analyzed stratified by specimen type (Gram-stained urethral endocervical, swabs urine smears.) test (culture method or NAAT). Sensitivity similarly high versus NAAT (93% [CI, 64% 99 %]) culture methods (87% 74% 94%]), followed (97% [95% CI, 86% 100%]) (81% 67% 90%]). Specificity also (98% 95% (94% 73% 99%]), 93% 99%]) (96% 78% 99%]). Conclusions: Data suggest that have highest when investigated against methods, accuracy, smears. Given convenience, quick turnaround time, may be useful expanding first-line screening

Diagnostic accuracy of screening tests for COPD: a systematic review and meta-analysis
BACKGROUND Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is widely underdiagnosed. A number of studies have evaluated the accuracy of screening tests for COPD, but their findings have not been formally summarised. We therefore sought to determine and compare the diagnostic accuracy of such screening tests in primary care. METHODS Systematic review and meta-analysis of the diagnostic accuracy o...
متن کاملScreening Accuracy for Aspiration Using Bedside Water Swallow Tests: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
BACKGROUND Hospitalizations for aspiration pneumonia have doubled among older adults. Using a bedside water swallow test (WST) to screen for swallowing-related aspiration can be efficient and cost-effective for preventing additional comorbidities and mortality. We evaluated screening accuracy of bedside WSTs used to identify patients at risk for dysphagia-associated aspiration. METHODS Sixtee...
متن کاملAccuracy of rapid and point-of-care screening tests for hepatitis C: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
BACKGROUND 170 million persons worldwide are infected with hepatitis C, many of whom are undiagnosed. Although rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) and point-of-care tests (POCTs) provide a time- and cost-saving alternative to conventional laboratory tests, their global uptake partly depends on their performance. PURPOSE To meta-analyze the diagnostic accuracy of POCTs and RDTs to screen for hepatit...
متن کاملDiagnostic Accuracy of Monofilament Tests for Detecting Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Objective To systematically evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of monofilament tests for detecting diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Methods We searched EMBASE (OvidSP), MEDLINE (OvidSP), the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science to identify diagnostic accuracy trials of monofilament tests for detecting diabetic peripheral neuropathy. We used a hierarchical summary receiver operating characteristi...
